Congratulations to all of our kids and coaches on a great 2010 season! What a tremendous effort at our 5K run at York University last week! We’re all looking forward to the family BBQ to celebrate with you this Thursday. Hope you can be there!
Literacy skills and physical fitness can seem like simple things, but for some kids the lack of these skills is a significant hurdle to overcome. The thrill of achieving a goal, the excitement of building new friendships with peers, and the confidence that comes from learning new skills can all equip kids to discover their potential and ultimately become valuable, contributing members of their community ... and their impact can be multiplied when these opportunities are provided by caring volunteers modelling positive behaviours.

We’re getting closer and closer to our big run in Toronto at York University! To help us do our best, our great friends at Brooks Canada are donating brand new shoes to every one of our participating kids. During our program, we had our shoe sizes taken this week — the kids are really excited about their new “kicks!”
Wow .. what a great, but challenging week this was! We did a full 10 minute run! The kids were awesome and I think they’re beginning to see that the upcoming 5km run really is doable.
After the 10 minute run, we did some “suicides” (a.k.a. wind sprints) and a full circuit of steppers, burpees, crunches, push-up and a wall sits. I always look forward to the wall sit . until I get there and then the burn in my quads starts to kick in.
The pizza game is always a favourite of the kids and is a great way to tire them out before the Word of the Day, snack and the reading session.
Coach Jeremy taught us about compassion and helping our friends, family and community. Coach Lindsay gave us an incredible demonstration of her jump-roping skills. The kids were really inspired to see someone take their passion to amazing new levels.
